Play-based Kindergarten is the way to learn in our classrooms. The children are using manipulatives while learning through hands-on activities as we teach the expected skills and standards. Through hands-on learning students will increase skills in number sense, letter recognition, sight word practice, and repetition through the monthly fine motor activities. The manipulatives will help solidify social skills and cooperative learning by having kids working together in small groups to complete a given task. Math and language arts skills will be shown through manipulatives by visually showing their understanding. The hands-on manipulatives will help strengthen fine motor skills while building self-confidence through purposeful play. The activities are bright, colorful, and developmentally appropriate which include cutting, lacing, painting, and tracing. They are using sand, gems, different colored manipulatives to show numbers and letters, and paint to increase their fine motor strength.
