My special education high school students need some high interest books that are at their reading levels. They have a difficult time finding books that suit their needs in the high school library and do not want to be seen by their peers reading "kids books." This means that they simply do not read! Obviously this will not help them grow as readers. My students are so far behind in their reading skills that it will be difficult for them to find gainful employment unless we can make significant gains during their time with me. With a classroom library, they can learn to explore books that are accessible and, with good books, they might actually fall in love with a story and learn to be readers!
