We are piloting a new special education program in the New York City Department of Education called ACES ICT. Our class consists of general education students as well as students with intellectual disabilities. One of the goals of this ICT model is create an environment that celebrates everyone's differences and supports their individual needs. One way we can reach this goal is through technology. We are looking to enhance the classroom experience by incorporating 5 iPads into our curriculum. We can use these iPads in a variety of different ways. One way we plan to use them is to increase communication in the classroom through assistive technology apps. This will give non-verbal students a chance to participate and interact with their teachers and peers. We would also like to use these iPads for the general education students as well. Whether they need help with phonics, bringing their writing to life through video, or mathematical concepts, students will be able to do so in a creative and accessible way. We thank you so much for your donation and look forward to making a difference in our students lives.
