Within the realm of my classroom, my students are diagnosed with social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities that impact their ability to access the curriculum without specialized instruction. As a special educator, it is my job to make sure each and every student is able to access the curriculum successfully. Since many of my students struggle with significant social and emotional needs, mindfulness strategies are often used within my program, in order to ensure the students can de-escalate and transition from class to class successfully. By receiving iPads for my classroom, students will have access SEL-focused tools that promote mindfulness, meditation, and compassion and will have the exposure necessary to develop meaningful relationships and become more socially competent in all realms of life. Research has showed that SEL focused technology keeps students engaged and on the path to mastering healthy social and emotional skills that children need to learn, but it can also drive student enthusiasm and promote self-assurance.
