My project, Virtual Learning Bootcamp, puts a positive spin on online learning. I believe that one of the biggest issues with online instruction is how to utilize this form of instruction to help students progress and be successful. We are living in trying times and my plan is to use three pieces of technology, an iPad, tripod, and microphone, to create a bootcamp atmosphere of guidance and training, helping students become successful online students. Adjusting to an online learning model can be a challenge at first, but my goal is to guide them in adapting to the format using technology that is designed to enhance visual and audio learning. There are benefits to online learning including, but not limited to, the following: added flexibility, replay/relearn, improved time management, self-motivation, virtual communication and collaboration, broader perspective, and refined technical skills. What is a virtual learning bootcamp? To be fair, each bootcamp will vary based on the needs and abilities of students. Bootcamp isn't a one size fits all experience. The technologies I'm requesting will assist the visual and auditory delivery of my lessons. The viewers of my lessons, my students, will be the audience, giving valuable feedback through participation and performance. Students may not feel comfortable asking their teacher to repeat a point made earlier. With Virtual Learning Bootcamp, students can replay previous lessons for clarity. Along the way, the streaming of a lesson can be paused to allow students to ask questions and take notes. Here is a sample of activities for becoming an online learner: complete required reading, review previous lessons, post discussion questions on class blog or via email, work on assignments, apply concepts/skills presented in Bootcamp, read and respond, check your work, and submit assignments. My job will be to present the important skills' lessons needed.
