We are requesting tools - chimes, weighted lap pads, fidget toys and more - to help them learn to self-regulate, breathe so they can do their best focusing on academics. These materials will help me teach my students how to recognize their feelings and how their bodies feel and will help with strategies on how to regulate their emotions. When children have these skills to manage themselves throughout their day, they are able to better attend to their academics and reach their full potential. In Providence School District, we apply the CASEL standards to teach children how to be self-aware, have self-management as well as social-awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making. Students will be able to participate in small group to practice these skills as well as individual meetings. This work will be shared with the classroom teacher so that teacher can use the same strategies for whole class instruction.
