Scholastic Magazines provide nonfiction reading materials focused on grade-level learning content. They encourage students to think about what they are reading, to study and respond to various text features and types of writing. It can be extremely difficult to motivate students to read nonfiction texts, but Scholastic Magazines are fun and expose students to the world! I have used Scholastic Magazines to teach language arts, science, and social science lessons. Many magazine articles also relate to social-emotional learning and lead to opportunities to help students develop these skills as well. Students use articles to support arguments and opinions, to conduct research, as a prompt for group discussion...there are so many ways to utilize this resource in the classroom.
