My students love to read! However, sometimes transportation doesn't work out. Unfortunately, this is a big issue if you teach in a rural district like I do. Sometimes, families owe outstanding fees which prevent students from checking out books. My district is a Title One district so we are faced with this problem often. I can't let my students' education pay the price. Building a classroom library would ensure each student has access to novels which would allow them to complete assignments and apply the skills needed for the End of Course Exams.
By donating to my project, your funding will put high-interest novels within reach for each of my students, which is essential because we know that we only become better readers by reading. Increased reading is linked to a better vocabulary and better standardized test scores; thus, helping my students become more successful in life. Increased reading will lead to more analysis and critical thinking which are essential skills in the twenty-first century! Students will sign books out but will be able to keep the books as long as it takes for the student to read. Books in my room will be stored on shelves, taken care of and repaired when necessary.
