When it comes to resiliency, our students are the best examples anyone can find. Often times they have had to rid their minds of the idea of "I am on my own." They have to learn to trust others and confront the challenge of teamwork and understand the concept of "There is no 'I' in "TEAM." Our sports and fitness group works hard among at-risk students to infuse hope, improve leadership skills, and develop trust in one's self and in others. SKYWAY Leadership Institute's program equips students with life tools through the use of "The Psychology of Hope." "The Psychology of Hope" defines hope as a “motivational construct” that encourages one to believe in positive outcomes, conceive goals, develop strategies, and muster the motivation to implement them. SKYWAY Leadership Institute builds team spirit through a physically demanding "ropes course." The "ropes course" challenges the student's skills, tests their fears and encourages them to trust others. Not to mention its a lot of fun! To imagine our students having the opportunity to take advantage of such a program is exciting and motivates us teachers to keep encouraging them to discover their own potential and be the best they can be.
