Student work time is a big part of teaching within the workshop model. After a mini lesson, students are given time to dive into the work. This often includes working with a partner, or in a small group. I have worked hard to make our classroom a place where every learner can access a optimal learning space. This often means having students sprawled out all over the classroom, with a hum of collaborative conversations taking place. By creating a comfortable space outside of my classroom, I look forward to students spilling out onto the sofas, and around tables. This area would serve all 7 classrooms in our wing, as well as be a welcoming place for primary classes to visit. It is currently a space where we house our school salmon tank, and have a few work tables. By changing the furniture, students would have a more inviting space to work, relax and converse in order to invite learning and collaboration.
