Ms. Karren and I are teaming up to think of creative ways that we can reach out to our kids. We have decided that a great way for children to be engaged is through having Legos in our offices. Students in my school have endured many traumatic events this year; an earthquake, COVID school dismissal, and the social inequality riots. Many of my students this fall will need to process their experiences. Many of the children that I serve are in the K-3 grades and have disabilities. Children can process their stories, feelings, experiences through play. Having Legos in our office will benefit many students. Children can not move forward in their education if they have emotional challenges. I also plan on using the Legos with many of the groups that I run such as anxiety group and social skills. Teaching with Legos will allow the children to unlock their creativity, strengthen relationships, and be engaged. The StoryTales Lego set will allow the students to tell their stories. The Build Me Emotions permit me to teach students about different feelings in different situations. And lastly, the DUPLO blocks will allow the younger children to integrate their fine and gross motor skills (since the DUPLO blocks are bigger). Ms. Karren plans on using these Legos by teaching her students about receptive communication, verbal expression identifying, and expressing social words. The Lego products will make a difference in our student's learning because it supports brain integration, imaginative play, and children use their sensorimotor skills. I AM EXCITED TO TEACH USING THESE MATERIALS!
