Students with sensory sensitivity have difficulty attending to academic tasks. Noise-canceling headphones work really well to help students tune out distractions and focus on tasks. Small interval timers help students who have difficulty maintaining on-task behavior. They can wear the timer, or the timer can sit on their desk. The beeps or vibrations serve as a reminder for the student. We combine it with a small chart the student can mark and receive reinforcement for their successful on-task behavior. The visual timers are great resources for students who struggle with time management. We place the timer on the student's desk so that she can have a visual reminder of the time she has left to complete a task.
