A large part of the Next Generation Learning Model is flexible seating. Pencil and paper is still a dominating force in the classroom, but why should students be confined to their seats for learning? I know it sounds silly, but clipboards play a huge role in allowing students freedom from their seats. Clipboards have no limits. They work all across the curriculum; in guided reading groups or working independently. They'll allow students to sketch notes while out on a nature walk or solving math problems on the carpet with their friends, clipboards allow freedom from their seats. Some of you might scoff, or even laugh at the idea of clipboards being an integral part of helping my scholars get through college, but it's the little things in the classroom that really make a student want to come to school. When students are given choice, no matter how inconsequential it may seem, student engagement and ownership over skyrockets. I know clipboards aren't Chromebooks, but the gift of flexible seating and mobile learning is something I will be eternally grateful to bestow upon my class would love for my class. All that I'm missing....is you.
