In our first grade classrooms we are working to build in stem activities in creative ways. One project we are working on includes attaching our science standards and our writing standards. It also adds in problem solving and engineering activities. Students will use the animal figurines from all over the world in a variety of ways. Each activity will strengthen their knowledge of the animal as well as tie into other subjects. The culminating activity will have them choose one of the animals and design a habitat for the animal. If funded, the project will provide enough animals for all the first grade students to use for their science, stem, and writing activities.
