"I hate reading!" "I can't get into a book." "This is so boring!" As a high school teacher, I hear these complaints almost every day. Unfortunately, many high school students are reluctant (or outright refuse) to read; I believe this is because many students haven't found the right book yet. In our small community, kids don't always have access to new and interesting books. They don't even know what they like or don't like. My goal is to build up my growing classroom library so that these students can start finding their identity as readers, and learn to read not just for information, but for fun! I'd like this project to fund new books in a variety of genres--all relevant and targeted to teenage audiences--for my students to check out and read. I will actively promote the books through book talks and discussions, and feature them prominently in my room. I want to pique enough interest to hook a few on some great reads this year.
