Although some folks think of overhead projectors as 'old-school' they actually remain useful in this fast-paced tech world. It is nice to have a stand-alone projector that students can use to share work with the class that does not involve hooking a document cam up to computer then networking to a ceiling projector. It is useful to have students get the experience of working through problems at the projector for classmates instead of just writing on a board with their backs turned to the class. Also, when it comes to sketching diagrams and pictures to explain concepts, it is much easier to use an overhead projector than to freehand a drawing, take a pic, upload it, then project it over the network.
