In this project, students will be analyzing the idea of how processes make a system work. We will explore the idea that each part of a system needs to function alone as well as in a group in order to succeed. In order to display this, students will be creating “space cities.” These cities will be created in different space environments with restrictions based upon real scientific research. In English, students will read The Martian, gathering ideas of how to survive on a planet different than our own. In World Geography, students will be studying government systems, economic systems, culture, and population and how these entities play a role in successful communities. In Engineering, students will be learning CAD, measurement, and statistics in order to create a scaled model of their city. In Biology, we will be breaking down small processes that allow life to flourish as a whole such as photosynthesis, cell respiration, mitosis, and protein synthesis.
