These materials will help me, motivative at-risk students, to want to read. The materials will also help me monitor their progress to ensure their success. I need to create an environment that is structured to help students set a goal, and I can model and work with students to reach their goals. My at-risk students' self-esteem and frustration rate with reading is high. Allowing students to choose their own books statically is proven to help students become motivated readers. Our library at my school does not have a lot of books that are high interest and low enough in levels for students to be able to read them successfully and independently. The books that I have chosen will help them want to open the book and read it. This is a small library for our room, but research shows that students a good classroom library is more effective than even a school library. My students are three-plus years behind, and statically it is very difficult for my students to ever get caught up once they hit middle school, and even lower in high school. Helping my students find success in reading multiple books in my class will help them build confidence and help them understand why reading is so important to them.
