This project is to develop an extracurricular field hockey practice club that will introduce the sport to the students at our school. I have recruited girls for this training with the hope that they will try out for the winter middle school league and eventually the local high school teams. I have arranged with the after-school Boys and Girls Club program on campus for facility use, and am volunteering my time to coach three-times-per-week for eight weeks to prepare interested girls for the upcoming season.
I have sought deals and donations for equipment to loan the girls to play. Since many of the students have not played organized sports, there is a need for personal gear as well as team equipment. I have a collection of used cleats and have purchased and borrowed used field hockey sticks. There is a donor for reversible pinnies and mouth guards, and I have been awarded a grant for additional sticks and balls. I am still pursuing options for shin guards, goalie gear and goals.
