My classroom is a melting pot. I have students multiple backgrounds. I teach my students it is important to celebrate each students' individuality, which includes their culture. I plan to teach my students about the holidays, including their own, that are celebrated throughout the world! To help make this fun unit more applicable to my 1st graders, I chose books that feature a character they all know: The Gingerbread Man! Reading these books to my students will help them to learn more about each other, and continue to celebrate their differences and see that it is our differences that truly make us unique.
