Being bilingual is something that my students need to be proud of and celebrate. Although I teach ESL, I also want to promote literacy in their home language. Research shows that using the first language is useful in acquiring a second language. Bilingualism both improves vocabulary and diminishes the chance of first language loss. Being bilingual will open many doors for my students in the future. I also want encourage them to read at home with their families. This will not only build biliteracy, but create lasting family memories and bonds. Thank you for your support it is greatly appreciated.
