These books will touch the lives of the students I teach and their families. The books will be shared as read aloud in class. The student's culture will be celebrated and the student will be made to feel special by listening to stories with characters that they can relate to. Students will write book summaries, or use the book as inspirations to write their own stories. Families will also have opportunities to enjoy these books. Students will take a book home in a special bag with a folder and suggested activities then return and share in class. Imagine the happiness families will feel when they can also relate similar stories and thus opening up rich conversations with their own children stemming from these stories. The ultimate goal would be for parents to come to school and read to the class or share a similar experience or something from their culture. That would truly be a bridge built by books!
