The WHS Culinary Arts program, and professional student organization focused on foods service and hospitality, Foodies Rock, is seeking this needed equipment to expand the knowledge and skill sets of our students. Our school is located in Westfield, Indiana, which is an area that is experiencing vast population and tourism growth. Many restaurants share a common hurdle, staffing. We created our culinary arts program to give our students hands-on training in customer service, culinary skills, time management, team work, budgeting, food safety, sanitation, and more. In addition to our series of culinary and nutrition courses, we have a professional student organization focused on food service called Foodies Rock. Some of the services we provide are catering both on and off premise, cooking classes for team building events, and participation in community service events. Our students cater events for up to 300 people, and having enough equipment to prepare the food is essential to our program. Our program has grown from offering 2 courses to a series of 9 different courses, from basic nutrition and culinary skills, to dietetics and meal planning, ServSafe food safety training, and baking and pastry arts. We have over 500 students taking our courses in a school year, and are in need of equipment to outfit our classroom labs and food service club, and are grateful for any donations! We use blenders to make healthy meals and snacks such as soups, sauces, and smoothies. We use large stock pots to make soups, sauces, and pastas. Food processors are an instrumental tool to prepare a variety of vegetables and for preparing many foods that go into larger dishes. We added a new baking and pastry course, and are in need of hand held mixers, rolling pins, baking mats, pastry tools, and other equipment.
