Some of the best ways to encourage reluctant readers to develop a love of reading are to choose high interest books, let the students pick the books they read, provide time for reading, and provide opportunities to talk about the books that they are reading. If I am able to expand the book selection in my classroom, I can provide more opportunities for my students to read and discuss high interest books that are at an appropriate reading level. I plan to incorporate book clubs and book talks into my teaching, as well provide ample time for independent reading. Having a variety of books in the classroom would help to move my reluctant readers to excited readers.
