Students taking Human Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology and Med-quest will be attending the field trip to Carnegie Science Center. Through the field trip experience the students will see the anatomy of the human body literally from the inside out. This will provide a powerful experience that can inspire people to be more concerned about their own health; to seek careers in the health professions; and to be interested in medical research and history. Learning from real human specimens helps to make a person feel a part of humanity, which simulation cannot do. In addition, our school district is composed of a variety of communities, with many students living in an economically depressed area. Very few students that are going on the field trip would be able to attend this experience on their own. Even though we are a suburb just outside of Pittsburgh, some students have not even been downtown. This is a rare opportunity that can help inspire those students who are interested in a career in the medical field, research, or history. Studying mummies provides insight into ancient peoples, environments and civilizations. The field trip will also help promote discussion and action about healthy lifestyles through the Body Works Exhibit and discussion about new technology.
