Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about my project! My name is Mayra and I am a first year teacher. I am in the last week of my Master's program, but I was offered a wonderful teaching position early. I was forewarned that the students were having a rough time because they had been having a revolving door of substitutes after their teacher quit 2 weeks into the job. When I came in the classroom, I was surprised to find that most of the school supplies were gone, and students were working with a single pencil with no eraser, or dried out markers, broken pencils, etc. I knew that in order for my students to be successful, they were going to need more than just a broken pencil and a few crayons. I would like my class to be able to participate during lectures and lessons. The materials requested, such as the small whiteboards, pencils, eraser tops, pencil sharpener and more will help my class get the one on one participation that they need. It would also help me make sure that my students are always prepared to learn with materials that are ready to go as well. By having items that are tangible, my students will be engaged. I like to do math and English review in a game like format, but since we do not have enough boards for everyone, most students lose interest. having sufficient materials for everyone will guarantee participation from all which will help them learn and have fun while doing so. Thank you again very much for your showing interest in helping me teach bright young minds!
