When former students come back to visit, they reminisce about their time in my class and always recall how much they loved reading CORALINE by Neil Gaiman and Ellen Raskin’s masterpiece, THE WESTING GAME. Both novels are engaging page-turners that grab student attention. I am able to teach literary elements, story arc, character development, poetry, sensory language, critical thinking, and so much more using the rich text. Students learn writing techniques, style, and conventions through author text. These amazing authors become student mentors and inspire children to write with skill, confidence, and creativity. Learning from experts is hugely motivating.
