Although we live in a rural area, many of our students have not had the opportunity to learn about science and the outdoors that surround them. The Ozark Natural Science Center provides an incredible experience where biology, geology, astronomy, and ecology all come together for a real world learning experience that students will love. Students will get to go on two different nature hikes, where they will learn about the interaction of different earth systems - for instance, how living things affect water, soil, and rocks. Students will attend classes led by teacher-naturalists and will learn about different properties of water, predator-prey relationships, and how scientists use radio tracking to learn about animal behavior. Many students' favorite event is the night hike, where they venture into the woods with no artificial light! Through this trip, students will also learn how to be good citizens of nature. This overnight field trip is a fantastic opportunity for our fifth-graders to see science in action. This DonorsChoose fundraiser is one of many fundraisers done throughout the year so every student has the opportunity to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime trip.
