My plan is to have our new lab coats embroidered with our school logo. These lab coats will become our uniforms for the Science Olympiad Competition. I expect they will last and can be worn by students year after year. In addition, we would have the lab coats available when practicing the events after school. In this way, students will learn about the safety protocols in a science lab. When my students put on lab coats, they seem to stand a little straighter, look a little more serious and tell me they feel like “real” scientists. Lab coats as uniforms would not only be practical, since some events require them, but would also go a long way towards developing team spirit and pride.
