If we are blessed to have our project fully funded, we will create a calming corner in each classroom, Kindergarten through fifth grade in our building, that provides a comfortable space for students to regulate their emotions by listening to music, reflecting on what triggered their emotions and just taking a few minutes away from the regular activities. Teachers will be trained on what calming corners are and how to use them to help students recognize and regulate their emotions in a healthy way. We will share this project with our community so that they may also use this type of intervention in other buildings. Children are physically unable to learn when they are dysregulated.
