The materials that will be donated to my classroom will be used to reinforce the reading center and activities that we do in class. I requested books with African American children so my students will get the opportunity to see faces like theirs and become even more inspired by the pictures and or the storyline of the book. We read stories in class sometimes that I find my students fall in love with but we usually have to return it to the library or share with the other members on our grade level. I would love for my students to be able to go back and reference these books throughout the year. Sight words play a HUGE role in 1st grade. Sight words are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight so they can automatically recognize these words in print. I asked for the 22 sight words books because it will give my students hands-on practice using and reading sight words. Math and Reading are both major focuses at my school this year. It is a goal to increase our students' math and reading scores. The two workbooks that I asked for will definitely add guided practice to our daily lessons.
