Flexible seating helps students to work in a space that is best for them. We have a lot of group work time so when it is independent or testing time, I allow the students to move around the room and get in a space that works for them. I want them to be able to be around the classroom and not just stuck in their desks all throughout the day. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of spaces around the room such as: laying on the whole group carpet with clipboards, sitting on the floor around the room with clipboards, sitting at the small group table, sitting in our library area or just sitting at their desk.
It is super important to me that the students are in the best space that they can be to get the best results. When they get the option of choosing where to sit they are more likely than not to choose a seat that works for them (and doesn't disrupt their peers) and they can get more work done than when they are seated at their desks.
The items that I have chosen will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed for small group. The lap desks will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. The new rug with be beneficial for whole group and for my students that just love laying on the floor and storage will be beneficial for the library.
