It is no secret that exposure to literacy at a young age helps children expand vocabulary and become fluent readers. Early literacy helps children develop reading comprehension skills that will benefit them for standardized tests and throughout their academic and social lives. Many of my students do not have access to books outside of school. Having the opportunity to bring a book like Green Eggs and Ham home means the learning never stops. Students can share their love of this book with their families as they practice phonics, rhymes and explore new vocabulary. The repetitive nature of the book "I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them Sam I am" allows every child regardless of their ability or level to read along and eventually connect spoken word with print.
