The classroom is designed to support students in subject areas as well as daily living skills. The students learn Math, English, Science, Social Studies and Reading. Along with these subjects, they learn how to cook, wash dishes, fold clothes, personal hygiene, etc. Then the students will take a field trip in the community to practice these skills. Ex. We had a lesson on Library Etiquette. We studied the appropriate voice level for the library, how to check out and return books, late fees (Math lesson), specific areas of the library such as printing etc. After the lesson was complete, we took a field trip to the library. Students were able to show what they learned during the field trip. The hot plate and the whiteboard would be an important part of the students' learning. The hot plate would allow us to create various dishes without relying on a microwave oven. The whiteboard would provide the students a visual (I am currently using large paper sheets) of the math problems we are solving and it would also allow the students to interact with learning through the use of the whiteboard without the fear of knocking it down.
