I have sixty 5th graders at my school who have been working extremely hard to earn the title of Student of the Month through a fun, competitive, and rigorous system I have been implementing. The materials I am requesting will turn their experience of our first Student of the Month ceremony into one they will never forget. They have no idea about the grand ceremony that awaits them. Your donation will provide golden trophies and a red carpet experience, in front of the whole 5th-grade​ department as well as their family and friends. Being in a low socioeconomic region, big celebrations over high scholarly achievements are not the narratives that these students take with them into their adolescents. They often do not see the immediate results of their persistence because of how much more they still need to achieve to reach grade level. However, their daily efforts should not be passed over. Please join me in cheering them on in this meaningful way. Join me in changing the narrative of how their daily efforts get recognized, and in turn, how they see themselves. Your one-time donation will turn this year's monthly experiences into one that will impact a 5th grader's self-image and confidence, as well as motivate them all to persist and raise their expectations of scholarly excellence in their final year of elementary school.
