With a rich classroom library, students are more likely to become excited about reading. When students are reading, they are not only strengthening academic skills like reading, writing, and critical thinking, but also learning to show empathy for characters (and in turn people) who are not like them. Several of the books and authors on this list have been specifically requested by students or are so popular in the library that students stay wait-listed for the book long enough that they lose enthusiasm. By having these books on hand in the classroom, I am hopeful that more students will have the opportunity to find a love for reading.
