There are 4-5 left handed students in each 10 different music classes I teach for 5th and 6th graders. Our biggest unit is our ukulele unit. These left handed students struggle to play the chords and to strum the strings since they are having to do everything opposite or even learn the chords upside down. I see and can appreciate their frustration. I've tried playing my right handed ukulele with my left hand and it's really hard (and I understand the ukulele). I would love for these students to be and feel successful as we learn ukulele songs as a class.
