Recess is more than just a break during the day. I want to make sure that we provide our students with the opportunity to utilize this time in the the most effective way. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) “Recess is a necessary break in the day for optimizing a child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development." My project would allow the students at my school to choose from a variety of activities at recess, such as football, soccer, basketball, jump roping, and drawing with chalk. Recess equipment for all students in the school will promote teamwork, respect, and confidence. It will provide students with structure so that they can work together! All students will go to recess excited to play different games with their friends, and return to their classrooms happy and feeling a sense of accomplishment for what they have done at recess.
