Many of the books in my personal library feature white characters or animals as main characters. I want kids to see themselves in books so they can start to relate to the stories we hear. Hopefully this can help close achievement gaps as well as help make all feel welcome. I don’t want diversity to be celebrated for just a diversity week/month. I want it to be the new norm in my classroom like a daily routine. Having these books will help bring culture to life everyday. I’m so excited to let the kids know about the kindness YOU are about the spread!
