Have you ever read a book that kept you guessing the entire time? That's the way Chris Van Allsburg's books are. Through his beautiful illustrations, interesting stories, and endings with twists, Van Allsburg keeps kids guessing and looking for clues the entire time. One of the main reasons I want a Chris Van Allsburg library for my class is that his books help strengthen my students' reading skills, particularly in the area of inferring. For example, his book The Stranger keeps students guessing as to the stranger's identity the entire book. They have to amass clues throughout the book from both the text and illustrations to finally come to the conclusion at the end of the book that the stranger is Jack Frost. Thank you for your interest in helping support my students in strengthening their reading skills!
