I want my students to experience the joy of reading a good book that they won't want to put down. At the beginning of the school year, I ask my students what their favorite book is, and most say that they do not have one! For students to become engaged in reading, they need high-interest books to choose from. These bestsellers will combine fun and learning. Research indicates that time spent reading is related to academic achievement which is why I emphasize independent reading in my classroom by allocating 60 minutes a week for students to read a book of their choice.
