My students want to read books that speak and relate to them, which is hard to do with the curriculum texts we have as an English department. As a 12th grade team, we are seeking to increase student engagement and develop a lifelong love of reading in our students, which is why we are introducing a Sports literature class next year. We believe this new curriculum will speak to the interests of our students, especially those who've found it hard in the past to enjoy reading in a English classroom. We are excited to implement this new class, but we do not have the requisite budget to acquire the sufficient amount of texts for our students.
