We all learn to collaborate by listening and building on ideas. Drum circles are an excellent way to teach this basic skill that is essential to the theater. The idea of beginning with a beat and building on that rhythm instinctually will also help with improv skills as well. The instruments will play many roles in the program for the students. Besides actual drum circles, we will use these instruments to create various sounds for scenes and shows. There are also several theater games that involve beats as well. I have no doubt that we will have fun creating together and appreciating what everyone brings to the circle.
