To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a classic American novel that is taught across the United States. However, students are intimidated by the shear size and complexity of the content. Through the use of the graphic novel, it will open a new door to Harper Lee's thematic messages. Students will use the graphic novel in accordance with their original novel, which gives ALL students, high and low achieving, the ability to understand her words and the meanings behind them. The visuals allow for students to be able to dive deeper into the text & to see why one should never shoot a mockingbird!
