In my experience as a science teacher, 7th graders are really fidgety. They need to move. If they don't have a way to move that's productive, they will find a way to move that's destructive. Snapped pencils, graffiti on furniture, ripping up tiny pieces of paper or bothering the student closest to them. Sometimes they get so destructive that they get removed from class and miss out on learning. That's why they need yoga balls. So far this year, I've found that students who are sitting on a ball in my classroom are far less likely to goof off and distract others from their learning. But right now, I only have one ball, and they're like 20 bucks apiece. If you fund this project, I will be able to offer yoga balls to any student who needs them rather than just one who happens to be behaving today. It will help them stay on task, keep them out of trouble, and maybe even make them love science class that much more.
