Our Life Skills department is working to provide a sensory room for our high needs students. We want to provide a place to explore acceptable coping skills. Our goal is to give these students a safe place to learn ways to cope with the sometimes overwhelming world around them. Many of our students have autism or related disorders and need a safe, quiet place to reset when they are overwhelmed. We will be using the toys as focal points for calming, the sound machine, lights and diffuser to create a calm atmosphere. The bean bag chair and blankets will help to create a safe, quiet environment to help students refocus on the academic and living skills they need for independence, through the use of sensory boxes, coloring or just being still in a quiet space.
