Through a grant, our district has provided our classroom with a diverse classroom library. These books are strongly needed in our diverse classroom setting and we are excited to begin to explore. However, we do not have an age-appropriate bookshelf in our classroom in order for students to easily access these books. Students should be able to see and reach our diverse and inclusive classroom library without adult assistance. This will encourage usage and increase exposure to books that mirror students and books about others' lives. The use of these books will help strengthen our classroom community. They will help teach understanding, compassion, and empathy towards others, as well as reflecting on students' own unique backgrounds, interests, and lives.
