I will be able to use magnetic manipulatives to teach my students about reading and writing. For example, they can come up to the board to write their ideas and erase any mistakes they might make. The magnetic sentence strips can be used to model lessons in grammar. Students can come up and underline parts of speech in different color markers. It will be better for the environment, because I can reuse these sentence strips (different than paper ones). Some students have an unusual pencil grip. When they write longer stories, their hand gets tired. The writing grips will help them hold their pencil in a way that will ease the fatigue. We will be able to brainstorm ideas on the whiteboard to help them organize their thoughts before they write. The leveled books are high interest and inviting. Students will have the opportunity to listen to the book or read along with the CD to help build their fluency and comprehension. Then student groups can discuss information they have learned from their book as I guide them through a lesson. I feel these materials will help me teach multisensory lessons and help my students become more confident about their ability to read and write.
