I teach daily math intervention for sixth graders who are significantly lower then most. I've realized that there's a few reasons why these students are not interested in math. Some are not interested in math in some cases because they don't have the esteem or drive to excel and in some cases, school is not important at home and they bring that mindset to school. I feel that everything in my cart may give the students a glimpse into changing their mindset about math. Giving them more comfortable seating to sit on and math games and manipulatives that are fun will help me to gain their interest in math class, which in turn will increase their grades and then trickle down to working harder in school because of pleasure.
