As a community based educator, I am extremely fortunate to have the community as my part-time classroom. I am able to teach lessons about street safety, survival signs, money management, appropriate social interactions, hygiene, health and nutrition I am able to determine if my students are able to generalize their new skills across environments. The life skills games and and math curriculum listed will enhance the current curriculum and give students another opportunity to practice and generalize their skills. My students learn best through differentiated tasks, lessons taught using multiple modalities, meaningful repetition, hands on learning, role playing and an emphasis on why it important to learn the specific skills. They understand that everything they are learning is increasing their level of independence.
